Mirage

Here there is the violent image
of birth.
And there is a silent picture
of objects in a simple room.
In between, perhaps, 
there is a mirage of a river. 
Clear mountain cataract. Foaming. 
Wolves routing elk and rerouting
masses of liquid and sediment.
Turbid water of the tropics
fanning out in unnavigable deltas. 
It could be a guide
while we
fumble about.
